May 2007
Dear Church Family,
This month my most important items of business are congratulations and thank-yous.
First, congratulations to our youth who made their confessions of faith and were baptized on Easter. I know the church is expecting great things from all of you, and I’m so glad to have this opportunity to help you along the way.
Second, many thanks to those who have helped clean out the youth room above the sanctuary as we get ready to put it back in regular use. More on that later.
Third, I would like to extend a more personal sort of thanks to my Pastoral Relations/Field Education committee. I know that for most of us another committee is the last thing we need or want, and I really appreciate their willingness to minister to me in this way. Especial thanks are due to Jordan Batts and Nate Hill, who have shown great bravery in being willing to encounter the ups and downs of church committee life at such young ages.
Fourth, I need to thank the congregation of Midway CC as a whole. Not for being such wonderful people, or for treating me so well, even though I am thankful for those things every day. This past weekend our church made it possible for me to attend Children’s Worship and Wonder Storyteller training. It was an intense few days and I will need a lot of practice before I am a competent Storyteller, but this was an important thing for me to learn and I know it will stand me in good stead for many years to come.
Ok, that part’s done.
Official-type Business:
--We are planning a trip to the Louisville zoo on Saturday, May 19th. This will require quite a bit of organization so stay tuned for more information.
--Camp forms are still circulating! If you haven’t thought about camp today, this is your reminder.
--Beginning Sunday, May 6th the youth will have a fellowship time of their own during the Sunday School hour. We will meet in the fellowship hall at 9:30, and after the prayer that opens adult Sunday School we will go to the youth room, where we will remain until time for worship. For at least these first few weeks this has not been envisioned as an opportunity for education, but simply a time to talk and get ready for worship. I hope all our families will consider making this extra time part of their Sunday morning routines.
--Dates for Vacation Bible School have been set for Monday, June 25th through Wednesday, June 27th. In the coming weeks you will be hearing more about this, and you will also be hearing the Christian Ed. Committee begin searching for volunteers. If you already know you would like to help with this year’s VBS, please talk to me or Sandy Gruzesky.
There are still 33 days of Easter left! Have you remembered to keep celebrating?
Peace,
Amanda
